P. Suresh Kumar : “Meditative Abstractions Rooted In Nature, Silence & Inner Consciousness”

Born in 1973 in Chennai, Artist, P. Suresh Kumar has cultivated a deeply introspective visual language that transcends representation and enters the realm of pure sensation and spiritual experience. Educated at the Government College of Arts and Crafts and later refined under the mentorship of Laxma Goud at the University of Hyderabad, Kumar’s practice evolved through a profound engagement with abstraction, colour, and emotional resonance.

While influenced by the emotive intensity of Abstract Expressionists such as Rothko and Motherwell, as well as Indian modernists like S. H. Raza and Laxman Shrestha, Kumar’s work ultimately emerges from a deeply personal philosophy shaped by the wisdom of senior artist John Tun Sien. For Kumar, painting is not merely an act of creation, but a state of being.

Nature forms the spiritual foundation of his practice, though never through literal depiction. Instead, landscapes dissolve into vibrations of colour, layered textures, rhythmic gestures, and atmospheric fields that evoke the unseen energies underlying existence. His compositions become immersive meditative spaces where thought recedes and presence takes form.  Rejecting fixed narratives or symbolic interpretation, Kumar invites viewers into a contemplative encounter guided entirely by feeling and intuition. His works do not seek to explain; they seek to resonate. Through luminous abstraction and instinctive mark-making, P. Suresh Kumar creates paintings that function as silent reflections of inner consciousness, memory, and transcendence.
