The home tastefully blends art, story telling and nostalgia to emulate the owner's distinct roots - from Assam and Bengal. It's a quintessential Bengali home, which has influences of Colonial-era plantation bungalows of Assam and Bonedi Baris (Traditional Bungalows) of Kolkata/Bengal.
Living out of rented accommodations for many years, Debabrata Dey, a user experience and Interior Designer (@thumbspark_creative) and his better-half Ofelia Dey Sarkar, a lifestyle influencer (@ofeliasarkar) always wanted to design a space of their own – which exudes the vibrancy of their culture. The couple love to throw parties and entertain people - Fine art, sculptures, music, creative conversations, coupled with adda and festivities forms an integral part of the home design. The idea was to encourage storytelling and conversation, which can transport the inhabitants/visitors to different times albeit being in an urban jungle i.e. Bengaluru.
While working on the home designing, great emphasis was placed on optimum user experience, ergonomics and storytelling. The design tastefully juxtaposed and integrated the owner's love for art with use of sustainable + reclaimed materials.
"We commissioned building demolishers from Bengaluru and Kolkata to source old pillars, louver doors, cast iron railings etc. from Kolkata. The idea was to give these old materials a second chance and new lease of life. Some of the furniture pieces are unique and designed specifically to exude vintage charm. The entire home is spruced up using Shital Pati surfaces and Rattan weaved furniture." shares Interior Designer @thumbspark_creative, with the #Housethome team.
