The design of this linear house in the traditional village street now engulfed by urban development is an attempt to create a balance between the traditional lifestyle of the user as well as their modern aspirations. The heart of the house is a court punctured in the centre of this linear space which brings in ample of light to the indoors.
Blending the built and the landscape, every space in the house is associated with the Greens and sunlight which is an integral part of the house. The house also has some unique features such as connecting bridges across the court.
The interiors are done up with a limited material palette—wood for the ceilings and furniture, Makrana marble for the flooring, glass to maximise the surrounding views and white walls that maintain a calm ambience within the home. Natural Materials like Sandstone Stone, marble, wood and indoor greens add the much-needed panache to the otherwise very humble space design.

: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗘𝗱𝗶𝘁, Malabar Hill - 𝘈 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘔𝘶𝘮𝘣𝘢𝘪 𝘏𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘏𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘦 𝘔𝘦𝘦𝘵𝘴 𝘔𝘰𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘯 𝘎𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘦 >> Some homes are renovated. Others are respectfully revived.
The Heritage Edit by a&k Design Studio @designstudio.ak is a thoughtful restoration that celebrates the character of a heritage apartment while introducing a refined contemporary sensibility.
Set within a 3,500 sqft residence in Mumbai`s Malabar Hill, the home preserves its soaring ceilings, stained-glass windows, original terrazzo floors, carved timber doors & vintage ventilators, allowing its architectural legacy to remain beautifully intact.
A wide central passage forms the home`s defining design spine, seamlessly connecting private & social spaces while lending clarity to the overall plan. Light-toned walls contrast with darker terrazzo floors, creating a calm backdrop for a tactile palette of wood, cane, linen, leather & stone, where delicate cornices, arches & timber-framed openings sit effortlessly alongside clean-lined contemporary furniture.
Large windows & balconies frame the surrounding gulmohar canopy, drawing in abundant natural light & strengthening the home`s connection to nature. Thoughtful planning extends to custom storage, curated display units & an ingeniously reimagined balcony that now serves as a walk-in wardrobe.
Working within strict heritage regulations, the designers avoided structural alterations & instead introduced bespoke lighting that adapted to existing electrical provisions, transforming a design constraint into one of the home`s most sculptural features.

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘳𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘏𝘰𝘮𝘦, designed by @bytheriverside.in belongs firmly to the latter - 𝘢 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘵𝘸𝘰 𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦 𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘩𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘫𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘺𝘴 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘦𝘵𝘭𝘺 𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘭𝘶𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘴𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘦. Their adventures, captured through remarkable wildlife photography, find expression in a home that feels deeply personal rather than merely decorative.
A restrained palette of textured stone, distressed finishes & richly grained timber forms the foundation of the interiors. Live-edge wood furniture strengthens the home`s connection to nature, while an understated material language lends every room a sense of warmth, permanence & calm.
The living room is anchored by a striking tropical artwork that sets the tone for the home - contemporary yet rooted, expressive yet serene. This quiet narrative continues into the deep green media room, where walls & ceiling dissolve into a cocoon-like retreat - a space where photography & music naturally come together.
One of the home`s most cherished spaces is a simple coffee station by the metal window grill, conceived during construction rather than on paper. It reflects the trust between designer & homeowner, allowing the design to evolve instinctively as the home took shape.
The master bedroom echoes the same material richness through distressed finishes, a stone-clad wall layered with concrete & the warmth of a woven jute pendant, creating an atmosphere that is tactile, grounded & quietly poetic. Throughout, every element feels intentional, resulting in a home that reflects its owners` enduring relationship with nature, creativity & each other.

Derived from the Sanskrit word for a 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘤𝘪𝘳𝘤𝘭𝘦, Valaya designed by tHE gRID Architects @thegrid_architects, explores architecture as a quiet act of shelter. Set in Ahmedabad, the residence responds to its climate with intelligence, allowing orientation, sunlight, wind & seasonal change to shape every architectural decision.
The defining gesture is the sweeping curved brick wall along the south-west. More than an architectural expression, it functions as a climatic buffer, filtering harsh sun & monsoon rain while protecting the home without disconnecting it from its surroundings. 𝘐𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘢 𝘧𝘢ç𝘢𝘥𝘦, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘪𝘤 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦.
Arrival unfolds gradually through a serene waterbody with lilies, leading into a sequence of courtyards, voids & interconnected living spaces centred around a dramatic double-height volume.
Together with shaded verandahs, landscaped edges & a cascading stone water feature, these elements encourage light, air & movement to flow naturally across the home while strengthening its relationship with the outdoors.
Materiality remains restrained & timeless. Brick, concrete, timber & stone are celebrated for their honesty, texture & performance, allowing the architecture to age gracefully while reinforcing its connection to place.
Inside, the interiors adopt the same measured language. Open, calm & uncluttered, they prioritise proportion, daylight, comfort & everyday living over ornamentation.
Valaya is a thoughtful reminder that the most enduring architecture is often the least intrusive - 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘴 𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘺 𝘪𝘯 𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘪𝘵 𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘴.

The main idea behind the project came from the form of a folded sheet of paper. The roof folds down from the first floor and touches the ground on both sides, creating a protective outer shell for the cottage. This form helps block views and disturbance from the neighboring house and the public road while opening completely toward the sea. The sloping chamfered roof edges were introduced in such a way that the sea becomes visible immediately upon entering the cottage, creating a wide panoramic view from inside the living space. The folded roof form also inspired the name La Casa De Papel.
The ground floor consists of a living area with an open kitchenette, a toilet near the entrance, and a steel spiral staircase leading to the upper floor. The living space extends onto a deck built over a shallow water body facing the sea. The first floor contains a bedroom with a balcony facing the ocean and a toilet positioned above the entrance on the opposite side.
Despite its steel A-frame appearance, the cottage is built with load-bearing exposed brick walls and a concrete slab, topped by a steel-framed roof clad in ceramic tiles. Plumbing was carefully concealed within the narrow folded roof profile, while materials were left exposed in their natural finish.

A home designed as an eclectic fusion of industrial & modern aesthetic by & for an Architect - Puran Kumar (Principal Architect, Studio PKA, Mumbai @studiopka) & his family, the story of 9PM morphs & swells as an intervention that responds to the needs of its residents.
Cloistered up on Worli Hill Road – with extensive views of the Mumbai Sea face and the Sun kissed horizon – the abode embodies an essence of simplicity in design & expression.
The heart of the 2,000 sqft 3-bedroom residence is reserved for the living & dining – for lounging, entertaining & coming together – alluding to the family’s penchant for hosting guests, which also helps lend the apartment its name.
This openness of the core seems to allow the floor plate to flow beyond its actual footprint & size, which further branches out into zones of privacy & quiet contemplation – individual quirk with comfort being of paramount importance.
In order to bring in natural light & capture the views & greenery outside, windows are aligned along the periphery – akin to a ribbon wrapping around a basket. Perched on the 3rd floor & surrounded by trees, the space acts like an oasis floating up in the sky.
Designed with an honest expression across a canvas – through experimental forms & earthy textures – a raw yet warm palette embraces the apartment. A mix of wood, exposed brick & plaster which are softened by the presence of varied furniture pieces that offset the structural surfaces with warm hues & tones.

“𝘐 𝘥𝘪𝘥𝘯’𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯 𝘢 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘥 𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘦,” shares Viral Patel, Principal Architect of Sparsh Design Studio @sparsh_designstudio. “𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘰𝘭𝘷𝘦 - 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘴𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘶𝘱.” After two decades of designing for others, his own 3 BHK home in Rajkot, became the place to translate that memory into built form.
The idea of an “𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘯 𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘦” becomes its organising principle, yielding a spatial continuum of interconnected volumes - fluid, porous and resistant to enclosure. Arched openings appear where walls might have stood & raised platforms delineate zones.
Reclaimed wood prevails throughout, bearing the hand impressions of local craftspeople. Cane, lime plaster, moulded surfaces & natural finishes introduce a wabi-sabi softness that tempers the structure, while muted base tones sit beside fearless bursts of soft pink, indigo, and even stark orange. But the pièce de résistance of the palette is the flooring - customised monolithic terrazzo inlaid with large pieces of black Kadappa stone.
Furniture remains light and flexible, capable of reorienting itself towards multiple spaces, depending on the moment. “𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘥𝘰. 𝘐𝘯𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺,” he explains. Across, terracotta planters soften corners and niches appear organically, referencing quintessential Indian interiors. Natural ventilation is central to the experience, with louvered windows enabling cross-breezes that often make mechanical cooling unnecessary.
At its core, this is a home designed to remain unfinished. “𝘐𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘺 𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦,” notes Viral. “𝘖𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘸𝘪𝘴𝘦, 𝘪𝘵 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘢 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘵.” Conceived as a “𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘧 𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘦”—always complete, never saturated - NAKSH invites additions, erasures & reinterpretations over time.

Designed for a young couple returning to India, the home draws inspiration from the character-rich loft apartments of New York while reinterpreting them through a warm, contemporary lens.
A dramatic double-height brick-clad wall, arched windows with Georgian bars & an oak wood ceiling establish the architectural language, while a carefully layered palette lends the home a sense of quiet permanence.
Rather than adhering to a single design style, the interiors effortlessly weave together contemporary, vintage & rustic influences. Beige marble flooring laid in a staggered pattern, tactile brickwork, oak finishes, brushed brass accents, rattan lighting & natural textures create spaces that feel collected over time rather than conventionally decorated.
At the heart of the home, the interconnected living, dining, kitchen, terrace & staircase unfold as one fluid experience. Each space carries its own identity while remaining visually connected, with subtle transitions, layered materials & restrained contrasts ensuring harmony without repetition. A cosy café corner quietly recalls the neighbourhood cafés of Brooklyn.
The private spaces introduce richer colours within the home`s otherwise muted palette, while textured fabrics, curated furniture, artwork & an organic mix of plants bring warmth, depth & an unmistakably lived-in quality.

Conceived as a home that feels effortless to inhabit, the design favours subtlety over spectacle. A continuous beige flooring palette creates a calm visual canvas, while handcrafted inlays, border tiles & carpet tiles quietly articulate individual zones without interrupting the home`s seamless flow.
Movement becomes an integral part of the architecture. Graceful arches soften transitions between the living, dining & kitchen, dissolving rigid boundaries while preserving a natural rhythm between spaces.
The material palette is equally restrained. Rattan, natural wood, teak detailing & muted green accents introduce warmth through texture rather than ornament, creating interiors that feel timeless rather than trend-driven. Curves, softened edges, subtle grooves & custom teak spindle details establish a quiet architectural language, while curated artworks & finely crafted joinery lend moments of understated character throughout.

The name itself, 𝗠𝗥𝗜𝗬𝗔, meaning “𝘋𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮,” captures the essence of this residence: 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘶𝘭𝘧𝘪𝘭𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘢 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨-𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘥 𝘢𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘢 𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘴 𝘥𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘭𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘪𝘵𝘴 𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦.
Set within a grove of nutmeg trees in Thrissur, Kerala, this 3,525 sq ft residence by i2a Architects Studio @i2aarchitectsstudio, is a thoughtful exploration of coexistence - 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘵.
Conceived around the preservation of the site`s mature trees, the home emerges as a series of sculptural cuboidal volumes, their interplay of solids, voids, light & shadow lending the facade a striking yet restrained presence.
𝘍𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘴𝘦𝘵, 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘨𝘶𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘦. Existing nutmeg trees, along with a mango tree, were retained & seamlessly woven into the architecture, with roof openings allowing them to continue growing through the built form. The result is a home that feels deeply rooted to its surroundings rather than imposed upon them.
A rich palette of microtopping red floors & doors, lime-washed walls, Bangalore stone, Mexican grass & handcrafted sculptures gives MRIYA its distinctive identity. Reflective water bodies flanking the sit-out further soften the architecture, while a striking red human sculpture stands as a symbolic expression of a dream fulfilled.
Minimal yet emotionally resonant, 𝗠𝗥𝗜𝗬𝗔 is a home where light, landscape & architecture exist in quiet harmony - 𝘢 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘴 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘣𝘺 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘴 𝘣𝘺 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘣𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘵.

: `𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙇𝙞𝙢𝙚 𝙇𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙜𝙚`, Ahmedabad - 𝘈 𝘊𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘊𝘳𝘢𝘧𝘵, 𝘊𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘦 & 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 >> 𝘚𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘴𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘵. 𝘖𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥. For this Ahmedabad home, the terrace has long been the family`s social heartbeat - 𝘢 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘤𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴, 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 & 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘥𝘢𝘺 𝘮𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘶𝘯𝘧𝘰𝘭𝘥.
Reimagined as `𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙇𝙞𝙢𝙚 𝙇𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙜𝙚`, this 2,200 sq ft renovation undertaken by Design Firm @studio.patternmaker, transforms an open terrace into a series of interconnected experiences, including an open-air gathering space, a semi-open spill-out zone, an enclosed lounge, a maximalist bar, pantry & powder room.
At the heart of the project is 𝙡𝙞𝙢𝙚 - 𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘨𝘦-𝘰𝘭𝘥 𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘤𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘪𝘵𝘴 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺, 𝘥𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 & 𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘤𝘰𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴. Crafted by Rajasthani artisans using traditional gutai techniques, the lime flooring remains comfortable underfoot even during Ahmedabad`s intense summers while helping regulate the terrace`s microclimate over time.
The structure further incorporates responsibly sourced wood and natural materials selected for longevity over trend. Existing plantations were retained and expanded into a continuous green belt along the terrace wall, strengthening the micro-climate, enhancing natural shading and restoring the space`s connection to nature.
Gentle level changes double as seating & surfaces for entertaining, while existing greenery has been reorganised into softer, curving forms that create intimate pockets within the larger landscape. The result is a terrace that feels calm by day, atmospheric by evening & deeply connected to its climate.
A thoughtful blend of sustainability, craftsmanship & hospitality, The Lime Lounge celebrates the future of experiential design while honouring the memories it was created to hold.

Wrapped in a distinctive skin of perforated concrete panels, the home balances privacy, light control & connection to its surroundings. Inspired by traditional Indian jails, the angular perforations filter glare, soften noise & frame carefully curated views of the hills, trees & temple beyond. As sunlight moves through the day, these patterned openings cast ever-changing shadows across the interiors.
Designed for a multi-generational family, the residence unfolds through a series of interconnected spaces where greenery, water, light & volume take precedence over conventional walls. A cascading water court welcomes visitors, while green buffers wrap the home at every level, dissolving the boundaries between indoors & outdoors.
The restrained palette of concrete, timber & raw textures is punctuated by accents of yellow - 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘢 𝘧𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘦 𝘰𝘯 𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘦. One of the home`s defining ideas is its rejection of unnecessary partitions. Dual-sided storage elements, display units & perforated screens shape spaces while preserving openness, light flow & visual continuity.
Triangular motifs recur throughout the architecture - from perforation patterns & security screens to staircase details & Kota stone inlays. At the terrace level, an amphitheatre, open-to-sky jacuzzi & spa-like retreat complete the experience, extending the home`s dialogue with light, landscape & sky.
The result is a residence that captures the spirit of its setting through a layered interplay of patterns, greenery, filtered light & carefully crafted volumes.
