Smita Srivastava : “Echoes of Silence, Texture & Intuition”

The abstract works of Artist, Smita Srivastava unfold like intimate visual compositions  – layered, lyrical & deeply emotive. A self-taught artist based in Bengaluru, Srivastava approaches painting as an instinctive and meditative process, allowing emotion, memory and spontaneity to guide the evolution of each canvas.

Working primarily with mixed media and oils, she creates atmospheric surfaces rich in texture, translucency and layered histories. Rather than imposing a predetermined narrative, Srivastava allows forms, marks and colours to emerge organically, responding intuitively to the rhythm of the moment. Music plays an integral role within her studio practice, influencing the fluidity, softness and cadence that permeate her visual language.

Her compositions often resemble fragmented poetic landscapes  – delicate collages of washes, textures & subtle gestures that invite quiet contemplation. Through muted pastels, earthy undertones and nuanced tonal transitions, she constructs spaces that feel both ethereal and deeply grounded.

Each layer within her works carries traces of process and emotion, creating paintings that reveal themselves slowly over time. Balancing abstraction with sensitivity, Srivastava’s art explores the fragile space between holding on and letting go – much like the lingering resonance of music itself.  Her works have been exhibited across several solo and group exhibitions in major cities throughout India, earning recognition for their introspective elegance and tactile depth.
