TUM RAKSHAK, KAHU KO DARNA : An Heirloom Tribute to Lord Hanuman

Across generations, Lord Hanuman has embodied strength, devotion & divine protection. His Gadā, a weapon & sacred emblem, carries that enduring symbolism with quiet authority.

Revered as the embodiment of strength, devotion, courage, and selfless service, Lord Hanuman symbolises the triumph of faith over fear and humility over ego. His unwavering devotion to Lord Rama and his boundless wisdom make him an eternal source of inspiration and divine protection.

The Hanuman Chalisa, composed by the saint-poet Tulsidas, is a sacred hymn of forty verses celebrating Hanuman's divine virtues and extraordinary valour. Recited for courage, peace of mind & spiritual strength, it is believed to dispel negativity and instil confidence in the face of adversity.  Together, Lord Hanuman & the Hanuman Chalisa represent the transformative power of devotion, reminding us that true strength lies in faith, humility & an unwavering spirit.

In this exceptional work, Atelier Housetome, in collaboration with National Awardee Phad Artist, Kalyan Joshi, transforms the revered form into a singular devotional artefact: the base bears the story of the Hanuman Chalisa, meticulously inscribed &  illustrated in the visual language of Rajasthan’s Phad tradition, while the rounded head, 'The Gada', unfolds with select chaupais & further episodes from Lord Hanuman’s divine narrative. Luminous colours &  intricate line work lend the sculpture an aura that is both richly ornamental &  deeply contemplative.

Phad is a centuries-old tradition of narrative painting from Rajasthan, celebrated for its vibrant palette, intricate detailing, and deeply rooted spiritual storytelling. Traditionally painted on long lengths of cloth, these remarkable works depict the legends of folk deities, particularly Pabuji and Devnarayan, transforming sacred narratives into richly layered visual chronicles.

Each composition unfolds like a living story, with figures, landscapes, and episodes seamlessly woven into a continuous canvas, brought to life through the distinctive artistry of Rajasthani painters. More than an art form, Phad is a confluence of faith, folklore, music, and cultural memory -  a timeless expression of India's intangible heritage, where every brushstroke preserves a story and every colour carries the soul of a tradition.

Rooted in a lineage of Phad painters spanning some 700 years, Artist Kalyan Joshi brings to the work a rare continuity between inherited tradition & contemporary expression.

Traditionally a narrative art form of Rajasthan, Phad is distinguished by its rhythmic compositions, finely articulated figures & the seamless unfolding of sacred stories across a single visual field. Here, Joshi extends that narrative discipline onto an intimate three-dimensional form, turning the Hanuman Chalisa into both image and object - an extraordinary convergence of devotion, craftsmanship & living heritage.

More than a collectible, this sacred Hanuman Gada is conceived as an heirloom: a sacred keepsake for the home, a contemplative object for the devotee & a work of cultural significance for any ardent collector. It’s presence carries the timeless reassurance of Hanuman’s protection - Tum Rakshak, Kahu Ko Darna.
