: `𝙍𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙍𝙖𝙜𝙖`, 𝘈 𝘗𝘰𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘸𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘧 𝘊𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘴, 𝘈𝘩𝘮𝘦𝘥𝘢𝘣𝘢𝘥 >> The idea for RetiRaga, A 1,700 sqft, Ahmedabad Home, by Design Firm @urbannest_designstudio, stemmed from the client’s desire to create a home that felt warm, intimate, and rooted in culture, yet contemporary in spirit. With one partner from Gujarat & the other from Kerala, the residence naturally became a dialogue between two diverse yet complementary traditions.

The house rests on a calm, neutral base walls in muted tones, clean-lined flooring & simple architectural gestures which becomes the canvas for accents of wood, crafted furniture, and artful details.

Warm teak wood takes the lead, explored through meticulously handcrafted furniture that carries the tactile richness of Indian woodworking traditions. 𝘗𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘴 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘢𝘭𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘢𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘢𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘳𝘴: an Ajrakh-inspired print here, a Kalamkari detail there, Kutchi artwork enlivening a wall each adding a note to the overall raga of the home. Color is introduced in restrained, thoughtful strokes.

The brief called for a home that embodies minimalism, functionality, and stillness - 𝘺𝘦𝘵 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘴 𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘮, 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘶𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘭𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘪𝘵𝘴 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴.

Designed around a veranda that blurs the line between indoors and out, the villa is set on a generously open plot, where every space speaks to seamless indoor-outdoor connectivity, natural ventilation, and abundant daylight.

The façade, pristine in white, sets a serene tone. Accented with warm wooden doors and subtle ambient lighting, it highlights the clean architectural geometry. A timeless hipped roof lends climate resilience while adding classical grace to the structure.

𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘢𝘳𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘴. The ceiling, expansive & calm, becomes a symbol of permanence & quiet presence. Wooden-framed windows flood the interiors with natural light that gently animates the spaces, dancing across matte-textured cabinetry and grounded marble flooring.

Furniture choices are intentional & poetic. In the dining area, soft boucle chairs gather around a monolithic timber-and-stone table - a gesture that unites nature with nurture, anchoring the home in the idea of food as communion.

Spanning 4,000 sqft, this Mumbai residence reimagines a bare-shell apartment into a serene cocoon - where white Banswara marble and teak wood furniture strike a dialogue between austerity & warmth.

True to the ethos of Principal Designers Nupur Shah & Saahil Parikh, the home is planned with precision and clarity. Every inch is purposeful, ensuring zero wastage of space.

The layout divides the social and private seamlessly: living, dining and kitchen flow together on one side, while four generous bedrooms form the private wing.

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘳𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘰𝘯 𝘢 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘦𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘴𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘺𝘦𝘵 𝘦𝘷𝘰𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘱𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦: white marble floors, recycled Burma teak doors polished in natural linseed oil, slate-finished bathrooms, and teak-crafted furniture. Spanning 2,300 sqft, the home draws from Mediterranean hues & littoral textures to create a retreat that feels as grounding as the Aegean shores.

𝘈𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘝𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯: Minimal yet warm interiors that center the family. Pastel tones drift like sea mist across spaces, anchored by azure doors, sandy shades, shiplapped details & rattan lighting.

A graceful gypsum arch ushers guests into the breezy living zone. Here, rustic modernity takes shape through an ensemble of Magari armchairs, bespoke chandelier & a sculptural coffee table from Studio Objectory.

The dining area, sourced from Stanley, balances luxury & ease. An Italian marble-topped table gleams beneath driftwood accents, while a textured work by Prachi Kothari animates concrete walls. A sleek buffet console with jute rope knobs, a Studio Palasa planter, and a jute spread nod playfully to the nautical.

A sculptural spiral staircase rises through the home, culminating in a timber-lined attic where material warmth creates a haven of retreat.

Materiality enriches inhabitation. Timber-framed windows & sliding doors blur the line between garden and interior, dissolving boundaries with ease. Stone-clad walls stand in grounding permanence, while slatted wooden screens filter sunlight - maintaining privacy without denying openness. Interiors remain restrained yet layered, where patterned floors anchor spaces and crafted details bring warmth and tactility.

: “𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘩𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘌𝘥𝘦𝘯.” This idea became the seed for Eden Moss - a home imagined as a breath of freshness evoking the scent of mud after rain, and seamlessly intertwined with nature while still embracing comfort and contextual charm.

Located in a verdant residential suburb on the outskirts of Thrissur, Kerala, the residence was designed by @urbaneivy_architectural_studio, for a young nuclear family with two children. The site lies close to Pullu, the vast wetland beloved by the clients, and the design draws inspiration from this ecological setting.

Elements of traditional Kerala architecture and tropical minimalism merge here, expressed through earthy tones and forms that settle naturally into the landscape. The 2,900 sqft residence comprises three bedrooms, a living area, dining space, prayer zone, and home theatre. The plan unfolds around a central courtyard that links the dining, prayer, and kitchen spaces, creating an open, flowing layout.

The exterior façade became a defining gesture of the design. Two primary elements - a sloping terracotta roof and a metal skin - shape its character, in dialogue with the mango tree standing proud in the front yard.

Sustainability and locality guided the material palette. Both interiors and exteriors rely on resources native to Kerala - materials well suited to the climate and rooted in tradition. The interiors embody tropical minimalism: calm, soothing, and unpretentious.

The clients sought a home that felt simple, prosperous, and closely tied to nature - a place where their children could grow and memories could be woven into everyday life. Eden Moss is a response to that desire: 𝘢 𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘴𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘺, 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘩𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳.

The palette is pared back to warm whites, dusty taupes, and woody neutrals, yet far from plain - walls shift in texture, terrazzo flows into wood, & every transition curves softly, guiding movement with ease.

Each space is anchored by sculptural gestures: a concrete-and-cane coffee table, shelves shaped like art, pendant lights woven from dried leaves and paper. Crafted in collaboration with local artisans, these details celebrate honesty in material - reclaimed wood, exposed concrete, and cane left raw to age gracefully.

Every room looks outward - to the sea, the palms, the sky - yet the home remains rooted inward, serene and intuitive. Here, luxury is not loud. It is slow. The warm and neutral color palette, accented by pastels and greys, creates a refreshing and serene ambiance. Sustainability is central, with eco-friendly materials like lime wash walls, reclaimed wood, and natural stones.

Entering through a solid wood main door, the handle-less design evokes grandeur, while a private lift concealed behind paneling features an inspiring engraved quote. The Living Room exudes minimalistic elegance with a basalt center table and bespoke brass hanging lights, seamlessly transitioning to an informal gathering area with a discreet sliding door leading to an integrated pantry.

Bedrooms reflect the occupants` unique preferences: the son`s room with modern rustic charm, the parents` room with a secure four-poster bed, and the Master Bedroom with a soothing stone bed back. The Pooja Room, designed with Jain principles, features a serene circular wood ceiling and engraved basalt stone panels.

Light-colored engineered wood flooring and wooden paneling create cohesion, while a repurposed sleeper wood breakfast table adds character. The Dining table`s dark polish stands out in the central activity area.

Designed by From Around Here @from.around.here, the interiors embrace abundant natural light and cross-ventilation, more akin to an independent home than a city apartment. The approach was simple yet refined - 𝘭𝘦𝘵 𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘷𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘮𝘦 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦, 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘦 𝘭𝘢𝘺𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘥𝘦𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘭𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘰𝘯𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘺’𝘴 𝘒𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘢 𝘳𝘰𝘰𝘵𝘴.

The entry sets the tone with a sleek linear mirror and stained veneer wall patterned with urli-inspired motifs. Even the shoe cabinet carries intent - ventilated, functional, yet finely detailed.

In the living room, a double-height wall in textured stone and warm wood rises with delicate beading, while cane pendants soften the waffle slab ceiling. Solid teak furniture anchors the space, with brass accents linking the prayer counter to the TV unit.

Dining & kitchen flow together, subtly divided by a suspended metal shelf. Across, grooved shutters reinterpret Kerala’s boat races, adding rhythm and narrative to minimal paneling.

The bedrooms carry this tactile language - from a live-edge headboard against blue brick in the children’s room, to Kasavu saree-framed shutters in the master, to baluster-inspired headboards in the guest suite. A glass-partitioned lounge overlooks the living space below, offering cocooned quietude.
