Located in a rather quiet suburban area of Ahmedabad, our recent project Taavish sits in the middle of a gated community that exudes serenity. Housing a family of five, along with a pet dog and an African Gray parrot, the client’s brief stated that the residential space should be as serene as the community itself.
Enveloped in an earthy palette, this 1,410 sq. ft home in Surat is tranquillity wrapped in tradition. A breath-taking lime-plastered wall in rust, detailed with grey tile and wooden moulding, becomes the first glance of this three-bedroom home named ‘Shajanand Viha‘.
“A house is a shelter consisting of walls, floors, doors, windows; roof etc. in which human being live.” This is something which is very basic requirement for any human but giving the house a home feel is something which really makes a big difference in basic requirement.

When Satviki Trivedi tore down one of the walls in the kitchen of her Ahmedabad, India, apartment, she discovered something unexpected: A neem tree so green and lush that it immediately filled the home with its presence. “I was so excited to invite that tree into my space,” says the 26-year-old interior designer.

The entire house was conceptualized in the form of huge mass, voids of the same volume, and extended columns and beams to show an open structural grid. This project is defined by two principle elements. The first is the play of volumes in a dwelling that illustrates interesting double height spaces and second is the use of raw materials and perforated brick patterns.

The project involved creating a 4BHK show-flat for a mixed-use development located in one of Surat’s elite precincts. A bare shell flat with basic provisions had to be converted into a show-flat that would demonstrate the usage of space vis vis structural elements.
