“The Sparrow Nest” : A 2,400 sqft, Hyderabad Home by Manikath Chava

The common focal point of this 2,400sqft apartment is to keep the decor stylish with different colours and also by giving some traditional touch. We opted for fine colours in the living area and further added wood and veneer to give the space warmth.

Villa Rashmi is a one-of-a-kind over 100-year old heritage villa in Mumbai with over 50 rooms, located on a dead-end road in the heart of the suburb of Malad. Villa Rashmi is situated in the High Security Military COD (Central Ordinance Department) vicinity.

This 3 bedroom Mumbai apartment has been renovated by architect Sahiba Madan of Insitu / Kalakaari Haath for a young working couple (the designer herself and her husband). Originally bought as additional space for the couple’s parents who lived on a lower floor, the apartment has remained untouched for over 7 years.

Floor-to-ceiling windows wrap around this apartment soaring above an upscale South Mumbai neighbourhood. Much of the home is a canvas in itself — one that frames many of Mumbai’s historic hotspots like the coastline and Mahalaxmi racecourse. By day, stunning panoramas take care of the odd hankering for the outdoors.

The clients are a creative couple, wanting a space which was formal, with a lived-in feel. They had visualised a space which was earthy and close to nature in as many ways possible. Therefore the challenge was to design contemporary cloth with an eclectic weave going through its every thread, this space eventually shaped up ‘as a home close to paradise’.

Designed by 1LeapingFrog Studio, this apartment takes its aesthetic cue from the strong lines of the existing windows. “The existing window frames provided by the builder had really strong black lines, says Aatira Zacharias who heads 1LeapingFrog Studio along with her husband Bhyrav BR.

The spaces of this house in southern Kerala are organized around the beautiful large trees which were existing on the site. The idea was to create a series of spaces that open out onto the green seamlessly. Water bodies add another layer, creating spaces that are one with nature.

36m above the road level, one gets uninterrupted breath-taking views of the Arabian Sea, the sea-link and all of south Mumbai towers. Through the large windows the sun light cascades 15ft into the house filling up the 11ft high volume with abundant natural light and wind.
