Simply put, the Courtyard House is a home of dreams. Nostalgic and traditional Indian elements come together with Spanish, Mogul & Moroccan motifs to create magic in a space that has no walls differentiating the inside from the out. The architecture and interiors are tightly woven together to tell a story of patterns, colours, textures and materials which are all carefully curated within each room.

The Chettinad region of Tamil Nadu is acclaimed for its gorgeous traditional mansions belonging to the old mercantile, agricultural and land-owning families, who titled themselves Chettiar or Chetti. These are known to be designed according to Vastu Shastra and constructed with local materials, crafts and construction techniques that responded to the local climate of that area.

A quintessential Hindu temple is an elegant reflection of India’s rich and diverse architectural history. Its charm and uniqueness captivates the world for an aesthetic legacy that is vibrant and eternal. The temple’s aesthetic influence and vibe slowly crept into the design of many Indian vernacular homes, bringing in age-old traditions and the use of local craftsmanship, making a home more than just a place to reside.

Bengaluru based Design Firm, House of Ruya designs a Cosy, 2bhk in Bengaluru, for a Young Couple & their little one. Elegance, minimalism and functionality find their ways into this abode. An East facing main door marks the entrance right inside the living room.

“For this Ahmedabad-based villa project, the Client wanted a minimal style in Neutral Shades of greys, brown and whites. They had just moved back to India after living abroad for 7 years. Early on in the discussions, our Principal Architect realized that they needed something special, a design that would intrigue them even after a few years of living there.

The brief called for easy movement, comfortable seating and minimal decor. At the same time, the language had to fulfil the son’s preference for a modern, clean-lined aesthetic. We managed to combine these varied sensibilities into a cohesive aesthetic.

The main door opens directly into an invisible intersection between the living and dining areas, anchored by the wall opposite the entrance, which features fluted wooden panels with a mirror center piece.
